Our friend Wiki says:
Quote:
True eels (Anguilliformes) are an order of fish, which consists of 4 suborders, 19 families, 110 genera and 400 species. Most eels are predators.

The flat and transparent larva of the eel is called a leptocephalus. A young eel is called an elver.

Most eels prefer to dwell in shallow waters or hide at the bottom layer of the ocean, sometimes in holes. These holes are called eel pits. Only the Anguillidae family comes to fresh water to dwell there (not to breed). Some eels dwell in deep water (in case of family Synaphobranchidae, this comes to a depth of 4,000 m), or are active swimmers (the family Nemichthyidae - to the depth of 500 m).

Aha. Ever eaten one of these nasty bastards? Laughing

An EEL is Dutch is called a "Paling" (or "Aal" in some places they say).

"Paling in't Groen" (Eel in green) is a traditional Flemish meal.

Me being a vegetarian, I have never eaten it though,

I was served raw horse in Japan, exactly like they serve what you guys might know as 'Sashimi' (but that's usually fish). I didn't eat it though.

They also cooked this mystery meat on the cooking plates in the middle of our table, and my suspicions were raised when it started curling at the sides. Yup, it was cow tongue. Apparently it is quite the delicacy, and expensive too. *shudders*

Yeah I think they eat that here too. However it shouldn't be confused with a fish with the same name.

Bah. Dead body parts.

Here in Holland we have an ancient paling (eel) fishing history.
It always struck me that there hasn't been a photographer (yet) who has taken E to Volendam to have him photographed in Eel Fisherman's cloting. Kinda like this:

I dont think E like eels. I remember him eating them on a breakfast show in the UK a few years back (1998-2000???) and he threw it straight up.
It could have been butch though? Confused
I was running late for school and didnt realise they were on tv until my brother flicked through the channels so i only caught a few minutes of it. Thats why Im a bit vague. sorry.

Yuk now we're talking about eating babies.
I should have known

On E's first Jonesy show he said
"there is no way I'm putting one of these things in my mouth. Besides, it would be like cannibalism for me."

I found a news story about eels just now. It talks about how moray eels eat with two jaws.
